ACRL Washington Conference Attendance Scholarship

The Washington Chapter of ACRL provides scholarships to two individuals enabling them to attend the annual fall conference jointly held by the WA/OR Chapters of ACRL.

The 2017 conference: Tried & True or Shiny & New? will be held at Pack Forest Conference Center in Eatonville, WA on October 19th and 20th.

Eligibility:

One scholarship will be awarded to a graduate school student who:

·         Is currently enrolled in a library/information science program.

·         Resides in Washington State.

·         Has an interest in pursuing a career in an academic or research library.

One scholarship will be awarded to a first-time conference attendee who:

·         Is currently employed in an academic or research library in Washington State.

·         Has never attended the WA/OR Joint Fall Conference.

·         Is currently within their first five years of professional employment in an academic or research library or is new (within the past 2 years) to the state.

 

What does the scholarship include?

The scholarships provide full conference registration, which includes meals, lodging and all conference programs, plus a $25.00 travel stipend, and a one-year membership in the Washington State chapter of ACRL.

 

How to apply:

Applicants must fill out the application form found here. They will be required to submit a 500-word essay addressing the following question: How can an unsuccessful library project result in positive outcomes for the library?

·         Essays will be judged on how well they address the question posed.

·         Essays will also be judged on originality, creativity, structure, perspective and relevant and thoughtful examples (goals, interests, experience).

 

Deadline to apply is Friday, September 1st, 2017. Winners will be notified by Friday, September 15th.

After attending the conference, each scholarship recipient will be asked to write an essay reporting on their conference experience, which will be published in that fall’s ACRL-WA newsletter and/or on the Association’s website. Including photos from the conference will be encouraged, but isn’t required.
